FIT THESIS 2018

Info

Hannahlajba.com is the photo archive of designs produced by Hannah Lajba. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology with a BFA in Fashion Design (2018), Lajba is currently working as a Studio Assistant to a prominent bronze sculptor in Omaha, NE.

In the last two years, Lajba has developed an interest in leather craft after finding a large piece of 100+ year-old, full grain, 12 oz. leather tucked away collecting dust. After restoring the leather and with no prior leather craft experience, Lajba made HL001. This first handbag began what is now two years of self taught leather craft and handbag design. Each bag in the series is made completely by hand without the use of sewing machines. This approach opens up the design process to more complex shapes with each handbag exploring a new construction technique. Another aspect of Lajba’s handbags is their sustainability and quality. Each is made with either found leather or full grain, vegetable tanned Horween seconds. By acquiring hides tanned in the US that were rejected for minor defects, Lajba can produce high quality designs that reduce waste and shipping emissions along with respecting the source of the hide.
